What the Society offers

Cheltenham Poetry Society exists to promote the appreciation and writing of poetry, and is open to anyone within reach of Cheltenham.

The Writing Group meets at Parmoor House, Lypiatt Terrace, Cheltenham on the last Tuesday of the month (except in December when it moves to the second Tuesday of the month). On these evenings members bring poems they have written, for discussion in detail by other members of the group, using the Hobsbawm method. Membership of this group is by invitation, limited to ensure everyone receives a critique of at least one of their poems.  However, the November meeting also accommodates the Annual General Meeting, to which all are invited.

The Workshop - which includes a writing exercise and a time of giving and receiving constructive comments on pre-written poems, This group is open to everyone and newcomers are always welcome.  The workshop is on hiatus during the summer of 2018 and will resume in September but in a different form ... watch this space!

The Poetry Reading GroupThese are on hiatus during the summer of 2018 and will resume in September in a different form ... watch this space!  Newcomers will be very welcome to come to these meetings.

The Society also takes part in recitals and readings. A writing retreat - the Annual Awayday - has been held since May 2013, to devote a day to writing and getting to know each other better.
